Benign Appreciation

Benign Appreciation
By: Dustin Sherman

To be one
With you.
To mask the apprehension
Would bring injustice to a
Mortal standstill.

Cessation would be the norm,
but to what cessation is a norm, an annual?
Or like a perennial that ideally brings rebirth;
life every full moon,
blooms alike?

Light has been brought to the
horizon.
The beams so bright,
blinding, but yet,
clarifying.

Clarification, an explanation of the seed
that lay dormant before budding.
Necessary? Words entangle the mind to halt the interpretation
sought.
Deeper.

Deeper you go.
Straying from your median.
A risk weighs on you,
for is this it? Your last goodbye,
or your next hello?

I digress.
Mortal standstill…
Is immortality a discussion for the inscrutable?
The benevolent?
The kindhearted?

Immortality of love and its
capability to cultivate startles the ones
previously broken from
anguish and misery by
love.

Does this give reason to hinder the
abundant
chances to be blissful and jovial?
To question life is to be mortal,
with immortal hopes of love.

Life has genius to send cessation or fulfillment
of the senses.
Your choice is like the road less taken.
To be or not to
be?

To have ecstasy in your heart, you deflate the
barriers;
barriers set up from previous battles amongst the
phenomenon we exclaim as
love.

Holler, beckon, shout, appeal to the ideal, while placing emphasis
on the entities that guide your gladness.
Walk steady with risk, that maybe,
this may become an immortal, heartfelt, deep
entity.

The closure or the prelude.

Thoughts Unwound (Poem)

Thoughts Unwound
By: Dustin Sherman

Lost in a dream,
a nightmare, a fairytale.
The dream is so uneven,
bouncing forth and back.

This piece of parchment lay,
the dreams and arrangements
you have lay out for me.
Should I follow?

Follow into pure struggle,
Drip into pure and unexplainable love.
For what is this,
the love story we have?

Emotions, they fly,
they grasp and release.
Why the waterfall of,
one single event?

Lyrics break with music,
The tempo raging and then,
slowing to its interlude,
never to be a finale.

For finale is not a word,
in our language,
there shall only be one word,
evermore.

Evermore, that smile that shines,
Gradual frowns, with the return of hope.
Passion seeps from every movement of our
voices.

Our declaration yet to be heard,
for it is yet in its draft
form. To be faultless, we shall
stand solid.

Pain we have created,
we shall overcome,
and we shall encompass
contentment.

Crazy,
What a word to define,
the time of reflection,
the desire needed.

The green grass on
the other side?
There is not such a thing, the grass
it is unanimous.

Clenching our hands,
never to let
go, we have educated these hands,
they cannot go untaught.

Dreams to inspire,
the wishful people.
Wishes, burning to come
true.

Let us dine in
understanding.
Where our thoughts and minds think,
as one.

Remember our past,
exist in our future.
Do not be fearful, we will pace this moment
collectively.

Unlimited Nuance (Poem)

Unlimited Nuance
By: Dustin Sherman

Gently whisping through
life.
Peace entails the
body.

Four chambers hold its’
eminence.
Beating, flowing, sifting
to strength.

The waves push it from
one shore to another
foreign land.
Alteration.

Pushing away from the
borders walls.
Terrified to embrace new
life with limbs.

Walls hosting deceit,
abstraction, endangerment.
Free spirits advance away from the
conformity.

Death is imminent, as it is to
ignorance.
Prolong ignorance,
engulfed by knowledge.

Truth is lurking.
Fear less.
Life is honored.
Hope is succeeded.

Gentle words of
assault,
will not hinder its
growth.

Disguised as innocence,
powered by paranormal,
enlightenment, a
lack thereof.

Ajar windows to
the tallest
mountain.
It pushes on.

Embraced by itself.
Strength learned.
Opened channels of its spongy matter.
The light piercing from its insides.

Bright self sufficient innerbeauty.

Swirling Dervishes & Mevlana

While sitting in a cafe in Turkey, sipping on Turkish coffee and soda mineral water, possibly playing tavla (backgammon), dama (checkers), or having a conversation you will sometimes be approached by people. I say people in general, because there are so many different kinds. Firstly you have the people asking for a lighter. Then there are the older men selling lottery tickets and scratch-offs (one of my favorites). There are also the young boys trying to sell roses to you for the girl sitting next to you. The men carrying around a tower of balloons, and the ones selling light-up toys. If you are hungry, there are men selling roasted and cold nuts, and the "cig-kofte" a raw meat that is delicious. You will also have beggars and children giving you a fortune card with hopes you will give them money. Lastly there is a group of people that work with organizations asking for money to support health groups, political groups and so on.

A lady from a leukemia support group arrived at our table asking for money. Of course I get out my wallet, especially since I knew she was official. She then gave me a pamphlet on their group and what they did. On it had an "advice" list from a famous philosopher, Mevlana, or better known as Rumi (Listed below). I was then interested to find out more about this philosopher and his influence.

Come to find out, he is the inspiration to the swirling dervishes(name of the people) participating in the dance known as "Sema." If you ever see a commercial or something about Turkish culture, people always seem to recognize the men twirling in a type of white costume. The traditional reasoning is that these 'twirlers' will spin to perfection. It is a journey through the spirit, mind, and love. It is said that after his 'journey' he will come back as a grown, more mature soul/person. He will have left his egos, his hatred, and his lies, coming to love life, and human nature.

Mevlana or Rumi, is well known for his poetry and teachings about love, peace, and harmony. He was a Muslim man, but looked at every religion with respect. He believed that every man should have his or her own faith, and to prosper through it, not to disturb others. Mevlana died in 1273, but left a legacy of teachings and is honored every year on the day of his death with a celebration of his teachings. There is also a museum in Konya where he is also laid to rest.

After reading some of his translated poetry and writings I find even more of a blessing to be here. To be able to walk the same streets as many ancient philosophers did is somehow amazing to me. The history of Turkey is deep and mystical, and each step I walk while in Turkey, I find something new, even as simple as a pamphlet!
Seven advice of Mevlana (Rumi)
1. In generosity and helping others, be like a river
Comertlik ve yardim etmede akarsu gibi ol

2. In compassion and grace be like the sun
Sefkat ve merhamette gunes gibi ol

3. In concealing others faults be like the night
Baskalarinin kusurunu ortmede gece gibi ol

4. In anger and furry be like the dead
Hiddet ve asabiyette olu gibi ol

5. In modesty and humility be like the earth.
Tevazu ve alcak gonullulukte toprak gibi ol

6. In tolerance be like a sea
Hosgorude deniz gibi ol

7. Either exist as you are or be as you look
Ya oldugun gibi gorun ya da gorundugun gibi ol

Belated Revamping - Poem

A poem I wrote awhile ago. I really like it. Everyone has their stages, but what is to be remembered is that everyone must be positive. There is always a flame burning inside of you. Dig deep within yourself, find it, and let it burn brighter! You can push through anything. I am proof. I find times can be hard, but if you point your face to the sky searching for the suns energy, you can find that inner strength to push on! So do it. Never settle for less and treat yourself to a full glass of happiness and positivity!

Belated Revamping
By: Dustin Sherman

What is it?
Locking me up,
Leave!
Let go of me, I want release.

Strength is needed,
My soul corrupted and strained,
tugged at by starved minds.
Nagging, yelling, clenching, wrecking

Stop, this is me,
My flaws have no collision on you.
The crash will explode,
Cease, leave, break, sever

Repairment.
You are still here?!
A dedication to my decline.
Still lonely, torn, loved, and promised

Help me, Liberation
Fancies me.
Internal bombs,
with the pins pulled, ready for attack.

Once more,
a weakened soul, who would have thought?
My heart is a maturing diamond,
Mantled and empty of color.

Blue topaz, the stone that will bleed,
Adding shade to my dull color.
Here let me clean that up,
Let the monotonous life persevere.

Blemishes covered up,
Minds soaring to different channels.
Stitching up my wounds, to a
Healthy angel.

You will tear me down, where I will corrode,
You will strike me with the words and manners,
but most of all my ammunition will be removed,
but I shall become numb to this crashing, disheartening world.
Pushing onward, evermore!

Your Nothing

Your Nothing
By: Dustin Sherman

Have I cracked the mirror
to your luck?
Have I turned the fuse off
to the power?

The candle is burning,
It will soon be shameful.
The purpose of life will then be questioned?!The passion put out.

The purity and reflections you have
stolen.
Give them back, or
drop them into a puddle of mud.

What makes the hatred evident?
Your glare, the look of
disgust.
Saddening imperfections yearning to be erased.

I promise to crack your code,
I will not conquer my fears and
disparities,
but will become one with you, forevermore.

Insecurities lurking around the corner,
hold me,
and in return,
receive nothing.

I will be brought to life,
stay and I will tear you down like you have me,
then, re-grow together as nix, in perfect parallelism
to the new world, the new ideals, the new life,
indifferent of you.

Soul's Venture

Here is a poem that I decided to write. Just my feelings put into words. Read, Enjoy, and comment. =)

Soul's Venture
By: Dustin Sherman

Stand up in praise
for Nineteen hundred hours.
Sanity found and captured from the heavens,
brought down to a new world.

Some have rescued,
few found;
Taken is what one wants,
to a beginning that shall too perish.

Endings of a single platform,
to a grand theatre.
Filling the emptiness,
with lights that one has been longing for.

Wants wanted,
Wishes ungranted,
Promises unkept,
Desires unfulfilled.

Bam! It has
changed?!
A grain of diamond found,
a sweet release.

Societies grasp is slipping,
They are breaking.
Yesterday soon to be
tomorrow, no longer false and deficient.

You shall know the truth,
of course, the sanity was found.
Want to know?
Explore.

New worlds and philosophies
explored and adopted.
Ill cover my eyes,
Boo! Surprise!

Never lost and only found.
Irresistible devotion,
unsure life
promise my future.
